There are pros and cons for carrying a metal handle knife and it is essentially a personal choice. Aluminium or steel is tougher compared to natural materials such as bone, wood or animal horn. These natural materials are all susceptible to cracking if the knife suffers a moderately severe impact. Even so-called impact resistant synthetic materials have been known to crack when subjected to mechanical force. A key factor is the design of the knife, whether steel handle liners are present and the overall strength of the pivot pin arrangement. One of the disadvantages is the added weight of a solid metal handle, although use of titanium and aluminium helps to reduce overall weight.

	1 - Spyderco UK Penknife Titanium Handle- One of the strongest knives on the market, and also one of the heaviest. The solid titanium handle is bomb proof and provides secure anchorage for the pocket clip. The pivot arrangement is totally solid as the pin passes through the titanium handle, with no blade play after continual long term usage.
	2 - Spyderco Kiwi Knife Stainless Handle - With a very strong back spring, the thumb hole on the Kiwi knife is not a practical method of opening the knife. The wharncliffe blade shape is more suitable for cutting and slicing rather than piercing tasks. Handle ergonomics are excellent with finger gooves providing a secure forward grip.
	3 - Spyderco Grasshopper Knife C138- This low price production knife has a 2.3 inch blade with thumb opening hole and solid stainless steel handle.
	4 - Spyderco Honey Bee Knife C137- The smaller version of the Grasshopper knife has a 1.6 inch blade with thumb opening hole, the lanyard hole makes it ideal for use on a keyring or neck chain.
	5 - Wenger Soldier Knife- The rivetted aluminium handle is totally solid making this knife pretty much indestructable. The 4 blades include can and bottle opener, large and small screwdrivers, reamer, wire stripper, 2.75 inch blade. Lanyard ring is stronger than Victorinox design as it passes through both side of handle, but may interfere with blade opening.
	6 - Victorinox Pioneer Knife - The same features and size as the Wenger Soldier knife with a slightly different main blade profile and different style keyring attachment. Handle also has an engraving panel on the reverse side.
	7 - Victorinox Electricians Knife- The same dimensions as the Pioneer Knife, but instead of a can opener there is a wire scraper, pruning shaped blade. The Electricians knife has no lanyard or keyring attachment.
	8 - Victorinox Farmers Knife- Compared to the Pioneer Knife, The Farmer's knife has an extra saw blade. This makes the knife approx 0.25 cm thicker than the Pioneer knife and slightly heavier.
	9 - Victorinox Cadet Knife- Smaller dimensions than the Pioneer Knife with a 2.5 inch blade and a nail file instead of a reamer.
	10 - Victorinox Classic Knife- Smaller than the Cadet knife, with a small pair of scissors, ideal as an indestructable keyring knife.
